3 Ways Leadership is Painted on Me

What does a makeup brush collection and leadership have in common?  Just having returned from a Mary Kay conference, I have found there are 3 similarites between a  makeup brush set and leadership qualities.

In my line of work a good makeup brush set is esseential.  Each brush works toward a specific goal and oftentimes being a leader requires different roles too. Let me share the three ways leadership is painted on me!

Each brush in our brush collection is specifically designed to be used for different areas on the face.  They are crafted to look and perform their role.  Each brush has a unique role.

Just like each brush in a brush collection has a special task, being a leader requires different roles too.  I believe there are 3 key similarities between a brushes and leadership.

1.  The brushes in our set are named.  On the handle of the brush, it is clearly written how the brush is to be used.  Clear communication is critical for a leader.  The people you lead need direction, goals and strategy.   I am often reminded of the bible verse, Proverbs 28:19, "Without a vision, the people will perish."
2.  The integrity of the brushes must stay intact for the brushes to work properly.   The brushes are made so that they can be cleaned and used over and over again.  Integrity for a leader is mandatory.  A good leader will inspire others to follow by being honest, truthful and selfless.
3.  The brushes need to be cleaned often.  If not, then the brushes don't work as good as they should.  The dirt and old makeup must be removed so that the effectiveness of the brushes are maintained and refreshed.  A good leader needs refreshed also.  Personal development is key to a leaders success.  Attending educational conferences, reading and taking time off is necessary for leaders to keep refereshed and renewed so that they may give their best to their followers.

No matter what you do in life, you are a leader.  Your job is to lead yourself to having the best life possible.  "Paint" yourself with my 3 best leadership qualities to lead yourself and others well!
